Summer Production - Educating Rita

22nd March 2022, 2:05 PM

Following the pulling of performance rights in the UK of our previously planned The Realistic Joneses by Will Eno, we are delighted to announce our new summer production of Educating Rita by Willy Russell.

Chris Porter will be making her directorial debut in June with this Pygmalion-esque comedy about freedom, change, Britain's class system, the shortcomings of institutional education, and the nature of self-development and of personal relationships.

Ian Hartley will take the role of Frank, a tutor of English whose disillusioned outlook on life drives him to drink and bury himself in his books. No stranger to the stage, Ian performs regularly with both Studio 61 and Pattingham Drama Group - his most recent with us being the leading role of Salieri in our 2019 production of Amadeus.

Nikki Ellis will take the role of Rita, a forthright hairdresser who is eager to learn. This will be Nikki's first role with Studio 61, after having been cast in both of our previously cancelled productions of Gnit and The Realistic Joneses, and we're delighted for her to bring her expertise back to the stage after a long break.

We will be performing this production at Newhampton Arts Centre (NAC) from Tuesday 28th June until Thursday 30th June. Once on sale, you will be able to purchase tickets via NAC's website at newhamptonarts.co.uk.
